Event promoters of the ATCO Super Series Finals – The Queen’s Club
have announced that the event is poised to set new records for
ticket sales, further demonstrating the success of the prestigious
squash championships and re-emergence of a thriving professional
circuit in the UK.
The announcement is a major boost for the Professional Squash
Association’s marquee annual event, which under the
joint-stewardship of Ziad Al-Turki, Vice-Chairman of the ATCO
Group, and Paul Walters, founder of internationalSPORTgroup,
will be held at The Queen’s Club in London from the 14th to 17th
March.
"Since
acquiring the rights to this major event, we have been working very
hard at finalising a solid and sustainable commercial platform from
which the championships can prosper over the short, medium and
long-term.
"Bringing this prestigious event to The Queen’s Club has the
potential to take the profile of professional squash on to a new
level. The Queen’s Club is one of the world's greatest rackets clubs
and many things about it really appealed to us, including its unique
heritage, its convenient location, its track record of hosting top
quality events and the enthusiastic reception we have received from
its members. I am sure that staging the event at The Queen’s Club
will help us greatly to further drive the success of the
championships.
"Ticket sales are already double what we achieved last year which is
a major boost for everyone involved in the event," added the
promoter of the Saudi International, the world's richest men's prize
money event."

First staged in
Switzerland in 1992, the championships first moved to the unique
location of Broadgate Arena in 1999. The five-day ATCO Super Series
Finals - London 2008 will feature two pools of four players, leading
to finals which will produce a 1-8 finish, and will boast one of the
richest prize funds in the sport.
The ATCO Super Series Finals – The Queen’s Club 2009 will bring
together the top eight qualifiers from the annual PSA Super Series
World Tour and will feature two pools of four players, leading to
finals which will produce a 1-8 finish.
World No1 Karim Darwish of Egypt will lead a star-studded eight-man
line-up which will feature compatriots Amr Shabana, Ramy Ashour and
Wael El Hindi; Australia's David Palmer; Thierry Lincou and Gregory
Gaultier of France; and James Willstrop of England.
"The
Super Series Finals is without question one of the most important
events on the Men's World Tour and staging the event at The Queen’s
Club is a natural fit.
"As well as showing a huge amount of interest in the championships,
the unprecedented demand for tickets also demonstrates the genuine
re-emergence of a thriving professional circuit in the UK."
